My name is Frederik Ueberschär, but most people just call me Freddy - so hi, I’m Freddy! 👋
I am an interaction designer, freelancer and maker with an affinity for technology and an endless drive to discover the unknown.
My design career started in high school with some hideous flyer designs and since then developed into a more professional direction with a bachelor design study at University of Applied Sciences in Osnabrück and a master degree in design at Delft University of Technology.
During this time I had the pleasure to work as a freelancer for multiple startups and gather experience at places like Volkswagen’s R&D department in Wolfsburg and North Kingdom in Stockholm. The projects I worked on included work for companies like Google, Sony, Porsche, Parrot, REI, Veolia, Zalando, Lambus, KONE, ICP, Imago Mundi and Netflix.
My work often focusses on crafting interactive experiences that touch on elements of critical design, product design and aesthetic devours to involve the viewer on a physical and emotional level, but almost always involve some kind of coding and electronic component to give my design life and autonomy.
My latest stop as a prototyper at Electrolux in Stockholm allows me pursue my interests and work hands-on at the intersection of design and technology.
In my spare time, I enjoy woodworking, landscape photography and am an avid baker – one way for me to keep in touch with my German roots whilst living abroad 🧑🍳.

Talks & Workshops
Machine Learning for Design
2022 - Delft University, Netherlands
Second edition of my one-day workshop on Machine learning as a design tool, with over to 80 students at TU Delft’s Industrial Design Engineering. In this workshop, we explored machine learning from a theoretical as well as hands-on perspective by utilising tools like Google's Teachable Machine, GPT-3, DALL-E and Stable Diffusion, always discussing their potential impact on design and society.
Tangity Jam
2022 - Tangity Munich (remote)
Presenting my work 'Landshapes: Using AI to foster climate engagement' to an internal group of Tangity, sparking an inspiring discussion on the topic of climate change and its impact on our society, as well as the impact of AI on design as a practice.
Machine Learning for Designers
2021 - Delft University, Netherlands
A one-day workshop with over to over 70 highly engaged students at TU Delft’s Industrial Design Engineering. In the packed day, we explored Machine Learning and its possibilities from a theoretical as well as very hands-on perspective through tinkering with different models of Runway ML, and even created our very own, communal dataset for GAN training.
Connecting the Analog and Digital World
2015 - DMY Berlin, Germany
Where do you start when wanting to work with the Internet of Things? In this workshop, Robert Schnüll and I took the participants along the basics of connecting screen and remote IoT devices using Particle Photons.
Speaker at Resonate 2015
2015 - Resonate festival, Serbia
In a short talk, we had the pleasure to present our concepts of critical and speculative design and talk about its value to a group of ~100 festival participants.
